“Bawitdaba” is a short film made by Andrea Mastrovito and director Marco Marcassoli in 2002 for the “Italian Boys” exhibition at the Analix Forever Gallery in Geneva.
It is a fantastical journey of a pair of toys through the history of cinema: a plastic piglet chases a plastic monkey in this “Blob”-style film, in which every scene is reconstructed using recycled materials, while the editing, sequence, and duration of each shot, as well as the soundtracks and dialogue, are taken directly from the original films to which the work refers: Dr. Strangelove, The Blair Witch Project, Indiana Jones, Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Jurassic Park, The Shining, Nosferatu, and One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.
