"Melancholia III" pays homage to Dürer’s engraving dedicated to that predisposition of the soul, in which a young girl is seated and surrounded by different objects that allude to this temperament, in the midst of which thrones a geometric solid. In Mastrovito’s drawing, once again, the instant is frozen, generating a short-circuit that makes it possible to leave open a thousand ways to the frozen image. The launch is suspended with the catapult, that wants to launch, but also catch, the solid that is suspended, its gravity contradicted by the lightness of its soaring in mid-air. The vitality of the action is suspended, inert, once again in that delicate equilibrium – limbo - between earth and sky, at the end of that line where everything is played out with no exact knowledge of anything.
