The drawing's title is from John Milton's epic poem Paradise Lost, spoken by a despairing Adam after his fall, and is famously used as an epigraph by Mary Shelley in Frankenstein, echoing the Creature's own lament to his creator, Victor Frankenstein, for being brought into a hostile world without consent.
This drawing opened the 2012 exhibition "The Modern Prometheus" at Galerie Guy Bartschi, Geneva.
