During his two-month residency at Analix Forever Gallery in Geneva, Mastrovito plans to hold three events before the final exhibition in September.
After the initial performance “Madhush a-live in Geneva,” the artist begins painting hundreds of black bats on the gallery walls.
After transforming the gallery into a sort of bat cave and the central column into a white tree (which will serve as the starting point for the third event, Procreation of the Gods), Mastrovito created a small impromptu work with plastic miniatures and a small toy Batmobile. Here, the artist plays, with his usual youthful irony, on the assonance between “man” and ‘batman’ and titles the exhibition “Portrait of the Artist as a Young Batman,” paraphrasing James Joyce, at a time in history when American superhero comics were beginning to enter the collective imagination through cinema.
