"Visual artist Andrea Mastrovito accepted an invitation from the Château de Grignan to take over one of the château's rooms—the oratory—and create a permanent work of art that echoes the spirit of the place. Using graffiti techniques, he carved into the plaster walls to bring forth a figure from the past, Françoise Marguerite de Grignan, daughter of the Marquise de Sévigné and mistress of the house. She holds in her hand the threads of her existence that connect her to the four phases of the moon, symbols of motherhood and the passing of time. The unnamed feeling refers to what we do not know about ourselves and which undermines or destroys us.
Like a revelation of a memory inscribed in the walls of the castle, this in-situ creation can be compared to Procession, an installation created as part of Andrea Mastrovito's exhibition N'importe où hors du monde (Anywhere Outside the World), which brings together a collection of works designed to resonate with historical heritage. On display at the Château des Adhémar - contemporary art center."
