"As part of the Modena Philosophy Festival, this short exhibition rethinks the desks we sat at as pupils as a support and vehicle for a reworking of images, concepts, and references involving different areas of knowledge, summarized in “school subjects.” To un-educate (and consequently learn anew), Andrea Mastrovito relies on drawing, a primary and essential sign, as his preferred technique for recording reality, moving between reality and fiction, between object and fantasy: the supports of the desks, where books, notebooks, pens—or tablets, today—rest, become pages themselves. In this way, the school context is gradually emptied, presented through empty frames or overlaps of different levels of signs, offering reality new forms and different possibilities of interpretation.
Finally, the blackboard becomes a cinema screen, onto which NYsferatu - Symphony of a Century (2017) is projected. [...] All these elements synthesize a miseducation which, like the adverse or joyful events of life, makes us reflect and grow, forcing us to never stop learning."
